Children Rights in Public Space
The project aims to create public awareness on the child’s right to play and have free time, the right to participate and the right to freedom from fear. Using an artistic point of view to present these rights, we, as Kinderbüro lobby for children until 14, would like to catch the public attention into matter.
Four artists are working on three children rights. In their projects we see artistic and individual interpretation of the child’s right to play and have free time, the right to participate and the right to freedom from fear.
The objects, installations and grafities can be seen in different places in Graz between the dates 26th of September to 2nd of October.
Right to Participate
When you come to Karmeliterplatz you realize three small houses which normally don’t seem to belong there. Then you come close and you discover a little blue house full of colorfull funnels all around which children can use as microphones. Then you see the second little house full of blackboards and colorfull chalks which is waiting for you to make your invisible thoughts visible. And finally you enter into the third house and you suddenly realize that it is unfinished. The artists Esther Blodau-Konick and Theresa Dietl invite you to finish!
Right to freedom from fear
Do you hear stange noices? Are they gun shots and children voices? Not gone crazy yet, just being around Wall Zentrum! You are just close to artist Bernhard König’s “Exterminating Futures”. Listen carefully, because children are talking about their dreams.
Right to Play and have free time
While you are walking in Stadtpark if you see yellow hopscotch you can start playing on it since it is made for you to play and remember children have the right to play! Artist Daniela Brasil makes a small – and playful – provocation to widen the official usage of the city space.
